What is The Juice?
Every weekday, The Juice delivers five short, engaging nonfiction articles written by an in-house team of educators and journalists. Articles span world news, STEM, economics, culture, sports, and more. Each article is leveled at four reading levels, available in 70+ languages, and includes read-aloud support, embedded vocabulary, a comprehension question, and an infographic.
Why It Matters for NJ Libraries
- Information Literacy: New Jersey is the first state to mandate K–12 information literacy standards. The Juice teaches students to evaluate sources, distinguish facts from opinions, and think critically about news core skills in the emerging NJ standards.
- Daily Reading Habits: Short, accessible articles encourage students to read nonfiction every day, building the reading stamina and background knowledge that drive comprehension gains.
- Accessibility & Equity: Four reading levels, 70+ languages, read-aloud, and dyslexic support ensure every user can engage regardless of ability or language background.
- Self-Directed Research: Students explore real-world topics independently, building research skills and curiosity exactly what libraries are designed to foster.
