Full or Part-Time, 14-35 hours weekly
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, promote and present creative programs for youth and children such as story times (toddler, preschool and early elementary), book clubs (tweens and teens), STEAM activities and special events.
- Participate in collection development by reviewing, selecting and weeding materials in a variety of formats.
- Create engaging displays, bibliographies and promotional materials to support literacy and library use.
- Plan and implement seasonal reading programs and craft activities.
- Collaborate with schools, educators and local organizations to promote library services.
- Maintain current knowledge of organizational procedures, processes, policies and operations.
- Provide outstanding internal and external customer service. Demonstrate a positive attitude in support of library goals and objectives.
- Respond to patron questions and situations in accordance with library policy and in a manner to enhance the reputation of the library as a public service organization.
- Prepare monthly narrative report on youth and children’s activities and assist in collecting other library statistics.
- Provide front desk coverage, answer patron questions, and help patrons use library technologies and modern digital resources. Check materials in and out and register new patrons with the appropriate library cards. Empty the book drop and re-shelve returned books.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Library Director.

Minimum of 2 years of college coursework/associates degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in Education, Library Science or Liberal Arts. Demonstrated experience developing and conducting children’s programming; strong understanding of child development and children’s literature.
Flexibility for the ideal candidate to work 14 (part time) hours to 35 (full time) hours per week. If hired on a full-time basis, the Flemington Free Public Library offers medical insurance to all regular full-time employees and eligible dependents provided through the State Health Benefits Program, participation in the NJ Public Employees Retirement System, paid vacation, sick and personal days.
