Signing Basics—"Customer Service Signs for Librarians: Part 2"

LibraryLinkNJ is proud to partner with Signing Basics to offer "Customer Service Signs for Librarians: Part 2," a series of workshops which will teach library staff how to better communicate with members of their community who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing.
"Customer Service Signs for Librarians: Part 2" consists of three 45-minute trainings taught by an experienced ASL instructor. This training continues to expand upon the signs learned in Part 1, and also covers:
- Practicing the ASL Alphabet, including fingerspelling
- Signing formal introductions and pleasantries
- Formatting questions using the Yes/No ASL signing structures: Who, What, When, Where, Why, Which, How, and How Many
- Constructing ASL-signed sentences using the Time, Object, Subject, and Verb format and incorporating more vocabulary
- Gaining a better understanding of "Do and Do Not Do" strategies when interacting with Deaf people
- Learning appropriate responses to direct customer service questions

Included are interactive handouts featuring all the signs learned during the training, along with video tutorials allowing attendees to continue learning after the training is concluded. Sessions will not be recorded.
