MentorNJ Online Meet-up: AI in Libraries
Online via Zoom
Event Description
Join us for an informal discussion all about Artificial Intelligence in libraries. Whether you're a skeptical observer or a curious participant, this is a safe space for library staff to share their thoughts about AI technology, discuss ethical concerns, highlight our favorite tools, and more.
Our Purpose: To explore, question, and share ideas about the role of AI in information work — ethically, practically, and collaboratively.
Join us in July for an informal discussion and an introduction for new members to how the meetup operates
Discussion Leader: Jon Braun, LibraryLinkNJ
Discussion Notes: AI in Libraries Discussion Notes and Resources
July 2026: Welcome Back!
Reintroduce the meetup’s mission, the support-system model, and the three core AI Resource sections. Use this session to set expectations, review resources, and discuss how the group’s feedback can help guide AI programming across LLNJ.
August 2026: Guest Speaker - AI Safety Awareness Project
Intro to AI Safety Evals (Non-Technical)
AI is moving fast. But do you know what's really going on under the hood?
AI Safety Awareness Project invites you to a discussion on safety measures that are built for AI models. These safety measures vary from company to company, but safety guardrails follow certain patterns that we can dissect. We'll be discussing the benefits and shortfalls of these security parameters, including: deception, blackmail, and goal preservation. We'll walk you through demos so you can simulate jailbreaking in a testing environment. No technical experience required. Join us to see how AI safety works (or breaks) in practice.
