Our small community branch in Twin Rivers is looking for a children’s librarian!

This position requires a master’s degree in library/information sciences (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.  But if you are currently enrolled in an accredited graduate MLIS program, you could be considered for the library associate title.  A New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certification is required for those who have attained the required master’s degree.

Please have prior experience working with children and/or coursework in youth services.

Full Time Library Assistant, Ewing Branch, Mercer County Library System May 8, 2024

Please accept this as notification of the anticipated full-time vacancy in the title of Library Assistant at the Ewing Branch. This is a 35 hour per week position that includes at least one evening per week, rotating Saturdays, and occasional Sundays as needed. The Ewing Branch is also open on four county holidays, and candidates must be willing to work on some of them.

The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written customer service skills, be detail-oriented, able to complete a variety of tasks in an organized manner, self-motivated, and a willingness to be part of a team environment while working with a diverse public. Computer proficiency, including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as a working knowledge of Symphony library software is required.  Candidates should also exhibit a strong sense of friendly professionalism, flexibility, efficiency, and be willing to contribute new ideas that will help the branch and larger library system to better serve its community.

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to: general circulation desk duties, processing patron hold requests and reports, assisting patrons with locating library materials, helping patrons with copier questions, answering the telephone, shelf reading, emptying the book drop, shelving as needed, and creating displays.  Participating in the library’s social media campaigns, writing occasional blog posts, participation in outreach events, interest in professional development opportunities, and an awareness of the library’s physical and digital resources, including how to assist patrons with general information about the library’s app and other electronic services is also required. This title is civil service and affiliated with the AFSCME Local 2287. The salary range is $33, 022 to $44, 334 in eight steps.

This is a notification of an anticipated part-time vacancy in the title of Library Assistant in the Youth Services Department at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch.

This position is 19 hours per week, including some evening and weekend hours.  

Successful candidates will display excellent customer service skills and willingness to be a part of a team environment while working with a diverse public. Candidates will exhibit a strong sense of friendly professionalism, flexibility, and efficiency. Computer proficiency is required, as is an interest in serving children and their families. Candidates selected for interview will be asked to prepare a sample craft and/or story time as part of the interview process. 

 Responsibilities will include:

  • processing library materials and acting as liaison to the Acquisitions and Cataloging department
  • answering reference questions for children and their families and assisting them in locating materials
  • planning, preparing and implementing programs, such as story time, for children and teens
  • participating in outreach events
  • planning and preparing crafts for children and teens

The present starting salary for this position is $18.1441 p/hr. This title is part of the AFSCME 2287 bargaining unit, and does accrue vacation and sick leave time, in addition to paid holiday time.

Position Title: Library Assistant p/t

Location: Hoboken, New Jersey

Scheduled hours: 25 hours per week. Daytime, evening, and weekend hours are required.

About the Position:

Reporting to the Collection Development Manager, this position performs various paraprofessional and detailed library duties. This position also assists with collection processing and repairs. This position assists with collections maintenance including shelving of library materials, examining the collection for the condition of books, and shifting when necessary. This position is entirely in-person.

Examples of Work: 

  • Process books, media, and other materials for the collection

  • Maintain and update cataloging records in online catalog software 

  • Assist in the screening of donated materials

  • Assist with the receiving and processing of book and other circulating materials orders

  • Assist with determining quality and readiness of items 

  • Inspecting books, media for damage and repairing items as needed; charging and discharging library materials

  • Aiding in reader’s advisory for the library under the supervision of the Collections Manager

  • Providing outstanding customer service

  • Locating books and publications, based on call number

  • Performing Inter-library loan duties

  • Performing accurate shelving tasks utilizing the Dewey Decimal Classification System

  • Taking inventory of the collection

  • Assist with circulation and the creation of new patron accounts

  • Pushing book carts with library materials

  • Shifting books as needed to make room for new library materials

  • Working at all Library Branch locations as needed

  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to learn complex computer systems

  • Adaptability to a flexible work schedule

  • Previous library work experience preferred

  • Fluency in a language other than English, especially Spanish is highly desirable.

Full-Time Youth Services Librarian (Oradell Public Library) May 6, 2024

Oradell Free Public Library is seeking a motivated and energetic librarian to serve as our Full-Time Youth Services Librarian. The Youth Services Librarian is responsible for the daily operations of the Youth Services Department.  The position is available immediately. 

 

The candidate must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and strong customer service orientation.  Knowledge of juvenile and teen literature and familiarity with Internet resources and Microsoft Office are required. BCCLS experience and supervisory experience are preferred.

 

The candidate must possess a MLS from an ALA accredited institution. Will consider student currently pursuing his/her MLS from an ALA accredited institution.

 

The full-time position is 35 hours per week including at least one evening per week and one Saturday per month.  Reports to Director and has a staff consisting of a Youth Services Assistant, several Desk Assistants, and a Page.  Salary commensurate with experience.

 

Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Management and administration of a busy youth department
  • Planning and implementing creative programs for children of all ages, including the Summer Reading Program and NJ Makers Day
  • Responsible for collection development and for overseeing the purchasing and processing of youth materials

The Matawan Aberdeen Public Library is seeking an organized and experienced Bookkeeper/Administrative Assistant to support the Library Director. The individual in this position is responsible for all financial record keeping, vendor relations, cash and bank deposit  transaction reconciliation, monthly preparation of Board meeting financial reports, payment of bills, payroll and paid time off record keeping, health benefits  and pension management, and other duties as required by the Library Director.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Bookkeeping

  • Cash flow monitoring
  • Processing of invoices
  • General ledger posting
  • Balance sheet and general ledger reconciliation
  • Journal entries
  • Vendor payables and receivables management
  • Management of quarterly appropriations and state aid payments
  • Preparation for annual audits

Payroll/Benefits Administration

  • Payroll preparation and execution
  • Employee benefits enrollment, changes, and termination
  • Health plan, pension, and insurance maintenance
  • Tracking of PTO

Support

  • Preparation of monthly financial reports for the Board of Trustees
  • General assistance with benefits and payroll questions for the library staff

Minimum qualifications:

  • High-school diploma with at least 2 years’ relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Expertise in bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Fluency in Quickbooks, word processing, and spreadsheet software applications
  • The ability to effectively communicate and work as part of a team

Strong candidates will have excellent bookkeeping skills, a keen eye for detail matched with perspective on the big picture, the experience to anticipate organizational needs, the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines, and the disposition to thrive in a highly collaborative, friendly environment.

Experience working in a library or other non-profit organization is a plus.

Schedule: 15-20 hours per week, flexible - based on the needs of the organization

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High school diploma, and former customer service, programming, and/or library work experience preferred

 This is a part-time position (up to 28 hours per week). 

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Initiate, plan, and/or conduct various programs and activities to encourage adults' use of the library, including films, concerts, and special events. 
  • Create a regular schedule of adult programs, (current average is 70 programs per month) 
  • Research, contact, and negotiate with potential program presenters and performers.  
  • Send vouchers and follow up for signature. 
  • Maintain and organize invoices and vouchers for adult programs. 
  • Lead several programs each month, including obtaining and preparing all necessary materials 
  • Coordinate programs to work into library initiatives, objectives, and community events.  
  • Set up and cleanup program space and assist presenter(s) or leave clear instructions for staff members if absent. 
  • Employ various strategies and methods to market programs to a broad audience 
  • Create creative, fun, and eye-catching flyers for publicity  
  • Submit press releases to various news media outlets/township TV station 
  • Prepare and submit adult program flyers  
  • Assist in content creation for FFPL’s Facebook page; post photos and information Prepare print and electronic newsletters 
  • Prepare all electronic and digital signs including online registration for adult programs 
  • Conduct applicable adult outreach to Fairfield community groups, organizations, or businesses, 
  • Prepare and maintain monthly statistics for adult programming 
  • Prepare and coordinate Adult Summer Reading Program 
  • Attend library conferences, workshops, and committees as applicable; attends and participates in staff meetings 
  • Assist patrons at the desk 
  • Perform circulation duties and tasks  
  • Perform other tasks as assigned 

 The Adult Events Coordinator works under the supervision of the Library Director.
