The Franklin Township Public Library, located in Somerset, NJ seeks an energetic, customer service driven individual to join our team! 

 

Position Title: Library Assistant                                                        

Location: DeMott Lane Branch                                               

Department: Circulation

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Charging and discharging library materials
  • Answering patron questions in person and on the phone
  • Issuing new and renewing existing library cards
  • Accepting payment for library fees
  • Shelving books, straightening, and organizing shelves

 

Duties include but are not limited to the examples above. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change with or without notice.

 

Qualifications:

  • Be able to deal with difficult situations in a positive manner.
  • Be able to follow oral and written directions in English. (Bilingual abilities a plus.)
  • Be able to repetitively bend and lift up to 25lbs.
  • Be able to work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Possess a basic knowledge of computers.
  • Possess a high school degree or higher.

 

Pay Rate:

$17.00 an hour. Sundays are paid at time a half. All part-time staff are eligible to accrue sick time per NJ’s Paid Sick Leave Law and will be enrolled in the DCRP pension system when earnings requirements are met.

 

Work Schedule:

The selected candidate will be scheduled to work at our DeMott Lane location for an average of 8.75 hours a week. Additional hours available during staff absences.

  • Thursdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Fridays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • The 3rd Saturday of each month from 10am to 5 p.m. (July & August 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

 

This is not a seasonal or temporary position.

Circulation Manager (Part Time) - Oradell Public Library April 15, 2024

Part-Time Circulation Manager

Oradell Free Public Library (Oradell, NJ)

 

The Oradell Public Library is seeking a part-time energetic and extrovertedindividual to serve as Circulation Manager starting as soon as possible.

 

The position requires innovation and versatility in helping patrons of all ages as part of a team committed to exceptional patron service and community engagement.  The position requires excellent communication skills, including the ability to help patrons use the library's resources.  We are looking for an individual eager to collaborate on projects with other library staff, and provide services to people and organizations within our community.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

Management

 

  • Supervises and trains the adult circulation staff while working in the adult department in conjunction with the Adult Services Librarian.
  • Schedules staff working on the adult circulation desk. 
  • Reinforces customer service values and practices with the part-time staff in their interactions with library patrons and each other in conjunction with the Adult Services Librarian..
  • Attends offsite BCCLS circulation meetings and participates in BCCLS webinars, surveys, and on-line discussions regarding circulation issues.
  • Oversees the delivery system and participates in the courier team which is responsible for the processing of incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Assist the Director in interviewing new part-time desk assistants and pages for the adult department in conjunction with the Adult Services Librarian.
  • Provides the Library staff with monthly BCCLS-supplied statistics on adult circulation activity and library door counts.
  • Participates in and makes circulation reports at all library staff meetings.

 

Circulation and Customer Service

 

  • Serves at the adult circulation desk as required and answers reference-type questions.
  • Directs patron concerns to other library departments and other BCCLS libraries as needed. 
  • Interprets both BCCLS and library policies for patrons. 

 

Experience and Education Required:

 

  • A minimum of three (3) years working in a BCCLS library or equivalent.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the BCCLS system.

 

This position is twenty-five (25) hours per week including one evening and weekends, as needed.  Reports to Director.   Hourly wage commensurate with experience.

The South Brunswick Library, located halfway between the metropolitan hubs of NYC and Philadelphia, is home to a diverse, growing community that values all the services the Library provides. Our staff is dedicated to providing excellent customer service through innovative programming, community engagement and outreach, and our Mobile Branch.

Our Library is embarking on an $11 million construction project to expand and repurpose our existing building. We are excited to bring new team members aboard as we build our next chapter at the South Brunswick Public Library. Renovations will include a new auditorium, state-of-the art meeting room, an expanded Teen Room, group study rooms, an instruction lab and more.

The South Brunswick Public Library is seeking a collaborative, customer service-oriented individual to join our staff as a part-time Librarian. 

As part of the Information Services Department and reporting to the Head of Information Services, the ideal candidate will be able to create a welcoming atmosphere at the Information Desk, provide all library users with assistance in reference, readers’ advisory, information literacy, and in the use of library materials and reference resources; possess excellent communication skills; enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility and a sense of humor. 

Job Qualifications:

  • MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution and NJ Public Library Certification, or enrollment in a graduate-level program from an ALA accredited institution.
  • Ability to keep informed of current objectives, principles, and techniques of librarianship and a willingness to adapt to new technologies, trends, and innovations for the benefit of the local community.
  • Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.  Ability to apply active listening skills.
  • Knowledge of available library materials and reader’s interests. Ability to determine patron information needs.
  • Ability to use the Internet and other electronic reference resources. Ability to use e-mail, spreadsheet, and word processing software. Ability to learn integrated library system functions used in carrying out job duties. Ability to operate in a network environment.
  • Schedule includes day, evening and weekend hours. Will be eligible for additional hours on a fill-in basis.
  • Fluency in a language other than English, knowledge of Polaris/LEAP, and experience with community outreach and engagement a plus.

Salary:

2024 starting rate for Librarian is $31.39/hour2024 starting salary for an Information Assistant (library degree in-progress) is $20.29/hour

Job Summary 

The Youth Services Assistant is responsible for helping the Youth Services Librarians with their daily operations. The successful candidate will have a love of young people, sense of humor, flexibility, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities 

  • Provide direct assistance to youth of all ages and adults. This includes assisting children and their caregivers in looking up, locating, and selecting materials, staying up to date with current reading trends and popular topics, and providing readers’ advisory. 
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the department through various clerical tasks. 
  • Properly shelve materials and maintain the orderly and neat condition of shelves and displays. 
  • Preparing and merchandising department displays. 
  • Assist with planning & preparing youth programs. Including crafts and other activities that support literacy and creativity. 

Requires 

  • Strong customer service and computer skills 
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent 
  • Previous library experience preferred 
  • Ability to stand for periods of time, push book carts and bend to empty returns 

Hours 

  • Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. 
  • Weekend hours are required and are in addition to the weekday hours 
  • Saturday and Sunday shifts are selected in rotation

The Verona Public Library is seeking a reliable, customer-service oriented individual to work with the public in a friendly setting.

Specific duties will involve:
• Reference and readers’ advisory
• Technology assistance and troubleshooting
• Assisting circulation staff as needed

Hours: Tuesdays, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., 1 Saturday per month 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and 1 Sunday per month 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be available on an as-needed basis. Weekend hours change during the summer.

Education: MLS/MLIS; New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate; matriculated MLS/MLIS students will be considered.

Starting salary for a degreed candidate is $30.00/hr.
