PT Library Assistant March 24, 2024

The Margaret E. Heggan Free Public Library of Washington Township in Sewell, NJ seeks candidates for the position of PT Library Assistant to work a range of 12-20 hours per week. The schedule includes afternoons, evenings, and regularly scheduled weekends. Evening and weekend hours are mandatory and are not negotiable. The library is open seven days per week throughout the year. 

This position reports to the Circulation Supervisor. The selected candidate, if not a New Jersey resident, will be required to establish New Jersey residency within a year of appointment in accordance with the New Jersey First Act. Pay is $16.39 per hour. 

All part-time library staff are eligible for accrued sick time based on the requirements of the New Jersey Paid Sick Leave Law. The selected candidate must enroll in the DCRP pension system, which is a mandatory payroll deduction of 5.5% of base salary.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing excellent customer service at all times
  • Charging and discharging library materials while following policy and procedural guidelines
  • Issuing new library cards and renewing existing accounts
  • Searching for library materials and processing hold requests
  • Answering telephones and assisting callers as needed
  • Billing and accepting payment for library overdue fees and material charges
  • Shelving books, straightening shelves, and reading shelves
  • Processing computer guest passes and registering patrons for library programs via online software
  • Operating a cash register, photocopy machine, and a facsimile machine
  • Tactfully and politely ensuring that library patrons are adhering to Library Rules of Conduct as needed
  • Assisting with coverage at the children’s desk
  • Performing other duties as assigned at direction of supervisor

Requirements:

  1. High school diploma
  2. Ability to communicate well and follow directions while being detail-oriented
  3. Excellent computer skills with the ability to learn new software quickly

Preferred:

  1. Flexibility with schedule and ability to work additional hours during staff absences
  2. Prior experience working in a library and using the Dewey Decimal Classification System or prior experience working with the public
  3. Knowledge of and interest in reading materials and other items that may be borrowed at a public library

PT Children's Library Assistant March 21, 2024

Passport Acceptance Agent - Plainsboro Free Public Library March 21, 2024

JOB OPENING:  Part-time Passport Acceptance Agent 

Plainsboro Public Library seeks an energetic and self- motivated Passport Acceptance Agent to become part of our new Passport Acceptance Services department.  The ideal candidate will provide friendly, high quality customer service to patrons of all ages at the Passport Desk.  A Passport Agent is responsible for accepting passport applications on behalf of the Department of State. The Agent verifies that the documents presented fulfill federal requirements, ensures the application is completed correctly, and answers customer questions. The Agent will also be required to take passport photos and fulfill general clerical tasks as assigned. 

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

● Memorization of extensive Department of State rules and regulations; 

● Complete web-based training; ● Remain detail-oriented under pressure; 

● Provide excellent customer service; 

● Communicate effectively with customers; 

● Complete clerical tasks online and using Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word; 

● Operate equipment such as the fax, scanner, copier and passport photo camera; 

● maintain effective working relationships with associates and customers. Education and experience:  Education and Experience Computer skills required. Previous customer service experience preferred. Passport application acceptance agents per Department of State requirements must: 

● Be a United States citizen age 18 or older; 

● Be free of any federal or state felony convictions; 

● Be free of any misdemeanor conviction for crimes relating to breach of trust or moral turpitude, i.e., embezzlement, identity theft, misappropriation, document fraud, drug offense, or dishonesty in carrying out a responsibility involving public trust; and 

● Not be on parole or probation relating to any federal or state convictions. 

10-18 hours/week Schedule: 10 hours per week, includes some evening and weekend hours. Possibility of seasonal increases to hours. 

Salary:  $18.00 per hour

Schedule:             35 hours per week - Based on library needs and will include days, evenings & weekends

Librarian 1 requires: A Master's degree in Library or Information Sciences in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master's program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State College.  Librarian 2 requires: One year of full time equivalent professional librarian experience as well as the requirements listed above. *Must possess a NJ Professional Librarian Certificate or obtain the certificate upon hiring.

PT Library Assistant March 19, 2024

The Montville Township Public Library located in northern Morris County (I-80/I-287) has an opening for a part-time Library Assistant position in the Circulation Department.

We are seeking a candidate who is able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and fill-in hours as needed for an approximate schedule of 15-25 hours weekly.

The successful applicant must be dependable, be able to provide excellent customer service, be a team-player, task-oriented, friendly, and have basic computer skills.

Responsibilities will include a full range of duties in the Circulation Department which includes Circulation and Technical Processing.  The successful candidate must exhibit the ability to deal tactfully and respectfully with the public and work effectively with colleagues and supervisors. The position requires lifting, bending, pushing and pulling Library book carts and carrying library materials from the book drops.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Work experience including some Library work experience is a plus. Computer skills are essential. Salary is $17.95 per hour.  

The Montville Township Public Library is covered by Civil Service regulations and staff is represented by the IFPTE Union. Retirement plans are available and the position also includes pro-rated vacation, sick and floating holidays.  Employment offers are conditional upon a successful background and reference check.
