The Paramus Public Library is seeking an innovative librarian (or matriculating MLS student) to specialize in creative problem solving and help redefine Adult Services. The ideal candidate will be an avid reader with extensive knowledge of current and future trends in the publishing industry. They will also be highly creative with the ability to work alone or with groups to develop innovative approaches to the evolving needs of our community. This individual will be forward thinking with a clear vision of future trends in librarianship and technology. The successful candidate will represent the library within the local community and state-wide / national library conferences. Finally, the candidate must have the ability to dream big, take risks, accept failure, and remember to add a bit of fun to everything they do.

Qualifications:  MLIS from an ALA accredited institution.

                                Will consider a matriculating MLIS student.

                                NJ residency requirement.

Hours:                    35 hours per week including one scheduled evening and rotating Saturday.

Compensation: NJLA minimum or above. Commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.

Responsibilities include:

  • Research and evaluate new trends in technology, library services, and social media to determine ways they can be implemented in the library.
  • Work with the public (inside and outside the library) to assist in reader’s advisory, information literacy, and technology training.
  • Build and maintain existing collections while identifying areas of potential growth.
  • Develop partnerships with local organizations and the business community.
  • Serve on Bergen County Cooperative Library Committees and / or Task Forces.
  • Attend ALA, PLA, NJLA and other library conferences to identify and promote emerging trends in library practices and ideology.
  • Participate in library activities and services.
  • Color outside of lines and break all molds.
