Overview: The Mt. Olive Public Library is looking for two Adult Services Librarians to join our team. We are seeking friendly, upbeat individuals with excellent customer service and teamwork skills. Experience working with the public is a must! This position will be a mix of traditional reference desk duties and activities that engage and educate patrons about the library’s offerings.

Community Outreach and Services:

  • Assist with Adult Programming: Take the pulse of our community and then design programming that revolves around patron interests and the latest trends. From classic book clubs to more avant-garde events, the best candidate will throw ideas against the wall until something sticks.
  • Promote Digital Platforms: The library world continues to go digital. Applicants should be able to engage patrons who shun technology but also meet the needs for those already eBook savvy.
  • Act as a Local Historian: The Mt. Olive Public Library has a robust local history collection. Prospective candidates should not only curate the collection but also to promote access and interpretation of our archival holdings.
  • Manage Social Media Accounts: Potential staffers should be able to actively promote the library’s resources and events on multiple social media platforms. Excellent candidates will be proficient in Canva or other design software that enables them to create dynamic promotional ads.
  • Redesign our Space: Create and implement thematic displays that showcase the library and its holdings. Help to illustrate that the library’s collection reflects the township’s diverse community.

Traditional Reference Duties:

  • Answer basic reference questions, including reader advisory inquiries.
  • Assist the public with library equipment, including printing, scanning and faxing and copying
  • Instruct patrons on how to locate information from a wide variety of materials including physical books, online sources and databases provided by the NJ State library and the MAIN Consortium.
  • Answer questions on library policies, procedures and daily library programs and events.
  • Assist and process inter-library loan requests for patrons as well as packaging outgoing requests from other libraries.

Education and Requirements: MLS required. Students currently enrolled in an accredited MLS program will be considered

Hours and Compensation:

  • Two weekdays and one weeknight, including at least one Saturday per month
  • 22 hours per week 
  • $24 to $27 per hour based on experience
  • All job duties will be divvied up between two part-time team members hired for this position
