Position Summary: Under direction of the Library Director will assist in the management, development and maintenance of the library’s archival collections, in both print and digital. Organize records, displays, classes, events, and prepares all materials associated with the NJ History Room. 

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to: 

  • Plans, organizes, and installs quarterly exhibits of archival and library materials. 
  • Prepares and presents lectures on the exhibits/displays of materials. 
  • Prepare and conduct classes on Middletown and NJ History.
  • Take the lead on the digitization project of The Courier Newspaper.
  • Scan and secure various loose vertical file documents.
  • Implement and maintain classification plans and preservation schedules.
  • Assist the staff and public with in depth research questions and requests.
  • Evaluate the physical condition of records in the course of other duties and alert supervisor to condition problems that limit access or threaten the safety of records.
  • Conduct orientation tours to onsite users.
  • Seeks out partnerships with local historical and governmental agencies.
  • Participates in planning and developing policies and procedures for the NJ History Room.
  • Prepares and catalogs all related materials 
  • Update the Middletown History and Middletown Veterans website pages at mtpl.org.
  • Create videos on how to properly utilize databases and online collections.
  • Prepare reports containing statistical information and findings. 
  • Collection Development for Adult Reference and History room materials. 
  • Assists on the Adult Reference desk.

COMPENSATION: 

CWA 1032 Contractual rate: $73,237.64/yearly

Full-Time - 35/Hrs. per Week, includes 1 weeknight and 1 Saturday per month

EDUCATION:

Graduation from an accredited college with a Masters in Library Science or History.
