Assistant Library Director/Head of Programs & Services - Search Reopened Sept 2022

 

The Montville Township Public Library, located in northern Morris County (I-80/I-287), is seeking an innovative, creative, and welcoming candidate for the position of Assistant Library Director/Head of Programs & Services. Our busy Library is located in a growing diverse suburban community with a population of 22,000.

The Assistant Director oversees the daily operations of the library and the collection. They are responsible for the evaluation, training, and coaching of staff.  Experience planning and managing a cohesive library public relations, marketing and outreach program is highly desirable, as well as the ability to write successful grant applications.  The position is fully in-charge of the Library in the Director’s absence which includes supervising the entire staff as well as working directly with the Board of Trustees and Township Officials.   As Assistant Director your role will center on administrative and management tasks and as Head of Programs & Services you will be directly responsible for improving service to our customers on a day-to-day basis.

General responsibilities will include:  Customer Service, Marketing & PR, Collection Management, Community Outreach, Programming, and Budgeting and Facilities Management.  Excellent writing and communication skills are necessary. Knowledge of Polaris library automation and marketing experience is a plus.

 Qualifications include an MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution and ability to obtain a NJ Professional Librarians Certification.  A minimum of 4 years’ post MLS/MLIS experience is required including proven management/administration experience.

This is an exempt 40 hour per week position and includes weekday, night and weekend hours.  The Montville Township Public Library is covered under Civil Service. Salary is commensurate with experience and begins at $76,000. All employees are members of the NJ PERS pension plan.
