Schedule

18 hours per week. Flexible schedule to be determined upon hire. Includes some evening and weekend hours.

General Description

The Building Maintenance Supervisor oversees the work of the cleaners and participates in building repair and maintenance. They coordinate annual scheduled maintenance, oversee work completed by outside contractors, and recommend repairs and new procedures to maintain the building. They also create monthly work schedules for cleaners / custodians, and they prepare and maintain appropriate records and files. The Building Maintenance Supervisor also trains all incoming cleaning staff at the library.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

The Building Maintenance Supervisor must have a thorough knowledge of: 

  • the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in building maintenance and repair;
  • hazards and safety precautions associated with the type of work assigned;
  • applicable codes, pertinent inspection and safety requirements; 
  • skill in the use of hand and power tools of the trade; 

and the ability to: 

  • recognize and diagnose problems; 
  • make time and materials estimates; 
  • follow oral and written instructions; 
  • plan and supervise the work of others; 
  • work from sketches, blueprints and drawings; 
  • maintain records; and 
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Minimum Training and Experience

The Building Maintenance Supervisor must have any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and extensive experience in building maintenance and repair, including some supervisory experience. The Building Maintenance Supervisor must possess a driver's license valid in the State of New Jersey.

$23.00 per hour
