Full-Time Library Director
Butler Public Library
The Butler Public Library, located in Butler, NJ, seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic leader with a strong commitment to public library service to fill the position of Library Director in a warm and friendly customer-service-oriented public library. The Library is conveniently located near a senior housing community. Across from the parking lot is a new municipal park that is heavily used.
The Butler Public Library is a small- to medium-sized library in Morris County, NJ, and is part of the Main Library Alliance. The Director is the only full-time employee. The other staff are part-time employees. Butler is a diverse, tight-knit community with a population slightly more than 8,000 residents.
The Library personnel regularly receive praise from patrons and our staff prides itself on “going the extra mile” to help patrons. The Library offers many well received programs for children and adults and co-sponsors programs with other nearby libraries and with the Health Department (next to the Library entrance). The Butler Public Library does much more than provide materials and programs for the community; we also try to provide information and referrals to help in other ways. It is located on the Morris County border with Passaic County.
Qualifications
ALA-accredited MLIS degree/MLS/NJ Professional Librarian Certificate
Professional public library experience – with 2 yrs. minimum in supervisory capacity
Current knowledge of library trends, innovations, and developments
Ability to work effectively with library trustees, elected officials and community groups
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving and technology skills
Experience managing staff of 9+ persons with regard to hiring, scheduling, etc.
Open-mindedness to diversity within Library as well as community
Experience with managing a budget preferred
Microsoft office suite knowledge a plus
Bilingual/proficiency in Spanish a plus – but not required
Knowledge of LEAP/Polaris LIS system is a plus
