The East Orange Public Library (EOPL) is seeking an enthusiastic professional to support the vision of a busy multicultural urban library that is dedicated to making a difference in the community. Essential Duties: The Children’s Department is seeking an enthusiastic, community-oriented, innovative and technology savvy Librarian with strong customer service skills to join our team as Children Services Librarian. This individual will be responsible for supervising a full department of full-time professional and support staff. He or she will be responsible for providing reference, readers’ advisory, programming, and technology assistance to children and their caregivers. In addition, provide statistical data and monthly reports. We are looking for someone with a passion for programming, outreach, and working with youth as well as participating in City initiatives. Also, this individual will be part of the Library Management team and work under the direction of Library Administration. Experience with STEM programming, virtual library services, and knowledge of current library trends is highly desired. This position is 37 ½ hours per week, including at least one evening per week and at least one Saturday per month. Scheduled hours vary with some weekend hours. Also, expected to work and may be assigned to other departments in the library or other branch locations based on library needs.

  • Plan and implement virtual, Grab & Go, and in-person (when appropriate) children’s programs for birth through seventh graders
  • Outreach and collaboration with schools and community partners
  • Reference and readers’ advisory
  • Collection development
  • Other duties as assigned Qualifications/Requirements
  • Positive, pro-active attitude and ability to provide outstanding customer service along with supervisory experience
  • Master’s Degree in Information Science, Library Service or Library Science is required or MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution
  • NJ Public Library Certification
  • General knowledge of children’s literature
  • Some experience with children’s library programming preferred
  • Ability to develop a good rapport with children and caregivers to identify their needs and interests
  • Familiarity with technology and social media and the ability to adapt to changes in technology
  • Speak, write and communicate in English effectively
  • Knowledge of STEM Programming Salary and Benefits: EOPL pays the NJLA minimum salary for Full-time Librarian 1.
