Children's Librarian, Elmwood Park Library

The Elmwood Park Library is accepting applications for a full time (35 hr. per week) Children’s Librarian. This is a Civil Service Position. Work schedule is subject to change according to the needs of the library, including evening hours and weekends. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Provide reference and reader’s advisory services for all age groups utilizing print and electronic resources.
• Strengthen connections with as well as assess the informational and educational needs of Elmwood Park families and schools.
• Instruct children and families in the effective use of print and non-print reference sources as well as use of library equipment.
• Contribute to the attractive appearance of the children’s room/area through appropriate displays.
• Collection development and maintenance of children’s materials.
• Design programs that foster a variety of literacies and learning methods, STEAM, and maker-centered learning.
• Provide age-appropriate programs and class visits for children and their parents, educators, and caregivers.
• Prepare reading lists and relevant subject bibliographies for public distribution.
• Establish professional relationships with school librarians in their service areas.
• Creation and implementation of a summer reading program.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements:

A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program and New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate are preferred.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

• Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
• Benefits include paid holidays, paid vacation, paid sick leave, health benefits, and enrollment in the PERS pension system. This is a Civil Service Position.
