Are you a people person and enjoy working with the public?

The Morristown & Morris Township Library is seeking a friendly, customer service-oriented person to join our creative and dedicated staff as a Library Assistant in the Children’s Department. The person in this position helps prepare and present children’s programs including story time, staffs the Children’s Room public desk, checks in and checks out Library materials and places holds for patrons, provides Children’s and Teen reader’s advisory and reference assistance, answers the telephone and answers Children’s Department questions, makes brochures and pamphlets, creates flyers for children’s programs, and helps to create displays for the Children’s Room.

New ideas are always welcome in the Children’s Department. We like a person who can work independently, but also work as a part of a great team here at the Library.  Creativity is appreciated greatly and helps not only in program and craft development, but also when decorating the Children’s Room, developing fliers and more!

Have you ever wanted to work in a vibrant and historic downtown area? 

Our Library is located in the heart of historic Morristown near many cultural and historical attractions and a wide array of dining and nightlife. As a result, the Library receives many visitors, and we have active participation with our residents and local businesses, both in person and virtually.

What is the Library looking for in a candidate?

The ideal candidate will have great customer service experience, can work with a variety of software (MS Office Suite, Canva, Google Suite, etc.) and web browsers. Candidates will need a high school diploma, but some college coursework is desirable. Experience working with children is preferred. The candidate will do some shelving and moving of collection materials and must be able to push book carts and lift up to ten pounds. Fluency in Spanish is a big plus as is knowledge of the working of libraries. The Library is busy! We are looking for someone who enjoys staying active and learning new things.

What are the perks for working at the Library?

This is a part-time position, 14 hours per week that includes every Saturday (to start) and some weekday hours.

The wage is $15.50/hr. and the position includes some paid holidays and sick time.
