Circulation Services Department Head

A rare opportunity to step into a management-level position, the Circulation Services Head is a key position where you can make a difference.

 

Status and Reporting: This is a fulltime, nonexempt position with a 37-hours weekly schedule that includes evening and weekend work.  This position reports to the LibraryDirector.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Excellent, welcoming and collegial interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to providing the best quality customer service to our patrons.
  • Knowledge and experience in the methods, theories, principles and practices of public library administration and supervision.
  • Ability to direct, coordinate and administer services and projects with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to manage staff, including training and assisting in the hiring process.
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, the ability to work competently with the library’s online catalog, databases, email, calendar and circulation systems.  Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Apps and WordPress.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of (3) years of experience working at a circulation/customer service desk.  At least one (1) year of experience shall have been in a supervisory capacity. 
  • Proven record of administrative competence, ability to meet deadlines, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get a job done.
  • Background in library, educational or cultural institution customer service preferred.
  • In order to perform job duties, employee must be physically capable of kneeling and bending to search for and/or shelve books, as well as capable of carrying books and mid-weight boxes, setting up program chairs and tables, and climbing stairs.
