Collingswood Library Now Hiring: Part-Time Teen Librarian/Library Assistant Position

The Teen Librarian/Assistant understands and relates to teens in their own language and on their own terms.  This position is focused on fostering a sense of fun, exploration, and inclusion.

Employer: Collingswood Public Library; Borough of Collingswood, NJ

Posting Date: January 1, 2023.  This position will be considered open until it is filled.

Schedule: 10-25 hours per week [PT], primarily on weekday afternoons.  Required: Wednesday afternoons and evenings [3pm-8pm], Friday afternoons [3pm-5pm], and occasional Saturdays.  An ideal applicant would be available to work at least three weekday afternoons.  Additional morning and evening hours are available. 

Education Required:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited institution for Librarian position.
  • MLS students or candidates with commensurate degrees and/or extensive experience working with youth will be considered for a Library Assistant position.

Compensation: $22-24 per hour for Librarian; $16-20 per hour for Library Assistant

Under guidance of the Head of Youth Services, the candidate will:

  • Coordinate programming for teens, including: organizing, publicizing, and staffing programs and activities focused on education and enrichment for teens and tweens in the community.
  • Shelve and repair books, assist with Children’s programs, provide service to patrons, create book displays, review donations, and make purchase recommendations.
  • Uphold the library’s mission, vision and values, including a commitment to the principals of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Clearly and consistently communicate and enforce the library’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist on the Reference Desk or Circulation Desk as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with tweens and teens and an understanding of their unique needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current and emerging social media and internet trends. 
  • Proficiency in teaching new skills to a broad range of learners.
  • Record of maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Proven project management and problem resolution skills.
  • Physical Duties: lifting up to 15 lbs.; sitting and standing for periods of time.
  • Residency in the State of New Jersey required in accordance with NJ Revised Statutes §52:14-7.
  • Candidate is required to complete a background check.
