Full Time Assistant Head of Customer Service (Library Associate) job description

 

Role and Responsibilities

Performs circulation and related library tasks under the direct supervision of the Head of Circulation and Library Administration.

 

  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to instruct others in the use of computers and digital devices. Quickly learns new technologies as required.
  • Passionate about cultivating strong community relationships and developing a rapport with library users of all ages. Provides excellent customer service to patrons and fellow staff.
  • Resolves patron concerns within authority granted by supervising librarian when required.
  • Processes cash and credit transactions using a cash register and patron computer kiosk.
  • Participates in training patrons and staff on the use of library resources.
  • Monitors shelves to ensure materials are correctly filed and accessible to patrons.
  • Participates in library committees and teams.
  • Assists head of Circulation in compiling data and producing monthly reports.
  • In consultation with supervisor and other professional librarians, takes the lead in developing and arranging materials for displays, exhibits and library programs.

 

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

Proven ability to use a variety of computer technologies and systems (experience teaching others to use technology preferred). Strong customer service skills a must. Experience using a cash register and handling money. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. Good oral and written communication skills.

 

Bachelor’s degree required.

 

Pay and Benefits:  This position is civil service position under the title of Library Associate. Full time position 37 ½ hrs. per week. The position offers medical benefits, paid vacation, personal and sick time. The library participates in the State PERS pension plan.
