Floater/Substitute Circulation Assistant – New Providence Memorial Library
New Providence Memorial Library is looking for a friendly, detail-oriented person to substitute and fill in at our Circulation Desk. Responsible for a variety of tasks including circulating library materials, registering new patrons, collecting fees, processing reserve requests and shelving.
Requirements
- A high school degree. Some college courses are desirable
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Must love meticulous details and be able to learn and follow the library’s shelving and classification systems to shelve materials in specific order
- Must be able to work Saturdays, and evenings and daytimes on an on-demand basis
- Must have good computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and use of internet, be comfortable with technology and able to learn new applications quickly
- Ability to work with small amounts of money and provide change for patrons
- Must be able to push, pull, move, bend low, reach high, and/or lift a minimum of 15 lbs. of materials; push or pull fully loaded (50 – 100 pounds) book carts
- Capable of shelving books and other items on all levels of shelving from floor to a height of almost seven feet (by standing on a stool, if necessary)
- Must be able to exercise judgment in public service situations and perform several jobs simultaneously
- Customer service experience in a library, office or retail environment
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Knowledge of popular books and media and desire to share that knowledge with others
Job Description
- Prepare the Circulation Desk for open and close including counting cash drawer
- Check out and check in materials including emptying book bins and processing newspapers
- Maintain Holds Shelf including phone notifications, monitoring Holds Shelf and Holds List
- Shelving books in all areas of the Library with care and meticulous detail
- Registering new patrons
- Collecting fees and making change
- Answer patron questions in person, via phone and email
- Other duties as assigned
Hours and Salary
You must have a flexible schedule and be able to work nights until 9pm, weekends, weekdays, and around library holidays on an on-demand basis. $17.90/hour. Must be in compliance with NJ First Act.
