Floater/Substitute Librarian – New Providence Memorial Library
New Providence Memorial Library is looking for a friendly, knowledgeable, service-oriented librarian to substitute and fill in at reference and/or children’s desks. Responsible for a variety of tasks including answering reference questions in person, via phone and email, assisting with collection management projects and helping patrons and presenters.
Requirements
- MLS or MLIS from ALA accredited program
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Service-oriented outlook, able to work with all ages of the public
- Must be able to work Saturdays, Sundays, evenings and daytimes on an on-demand basis
- Must have good computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and use of internet, be comfortable with technology and able to learn new applications quickly
- Ability to cover either Reference desk or Children’s desk, as needed
- Must be able to push, pull, move, bend low, reach high, and/or lift a minimum of 15 lbs. of materials; push or pull fully loaded (50 – 100 pounds) book carts
- Must be able to exercise good judgment in public service situations and multitask
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to run reports, and help patrons use library technology
- Knowledge of popular books and media and desire to share that knowledge with others
Job Description
- Answer Reference and Readers Advisory questions in person, as well as via phone and email
- Check out and check in materials, and answer phones when circ staff needs assistance
- Assist patrons with research, catalog searching, and public computer use.
- Provide technology instruction and troubleshooting for ebooks, databases and printers
- Prepare meeting rooms for programs (assist with AV setup, move tables & chairs, etc.)
- Assist with displays, program publicity, and collection management projects
- Some shifts will be person in charge
- Other duties as assigned
Hours and Salary
You must have a flexible schedule and be able to work nights, weekends, weekdays, and around library holidays on an on-demand basis. $31.80/hour. Must be in compliance with NJ First Act.
