LIBRARIAN FT, YOUTH SERVICES DEPARTMENT

 The Madison Public Library seeks a creative, customer service-oriented, enthusiastic, and self-motivated professional librarian to join our vibrant and active Youth Services Department. The Library is located in the Borough of Madison, located in Morris County, and is part of the Main Library Alliance, a consortium of 49 libraries in Northern NJ. The Youth Services Department provides services, materials, and programming for patrons from infancy through high school and their parents or caregivers. The department is an asset to the community and is well known for its excellent customer service and imaginative programming.

The Librarian reports to the Youth Services Supervisor and is responsible for the department in the Supervisor’s absence. The successful candidate will be a team player and will possess excellent customer service and communication skills. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Providing reference and readers’ advisory to children, teens, and caregivers
  • Creating and implementing high-quality programming that fosters a lifelong love of reading and learning, such as story times and STEM programming
  • Working with other department members and library staff to coordinate library wide activities, such the Summer Reading Program, and marketing efforts.
  • Establishing and nurturing relationships with local Madison schools and local youth oriented organizations through a variety of outreach activities.
  • Developing collections including print and electronic resources for all ages served by the department.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
ALA-accredited MLIS degree or equivalent and Professional Librarian’s Certificate issued by the New Jersey Department of Education required.  At least one year of successful professional experience working with children, tweens and teens in a public library setting is also desired. Complete ease in the use of computers is essential.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The starting salary for the position is $59,000 and is commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, exempt position, with pension and health benefits. 

SCHEDULE
The standard work week is 36 hours and regular evening, Saturday, and Sunday hours are required.
