As part of the Adult Services Department, provides reference and other library services for the general public requiring substantial professional knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of librarianship. Provides individual and group instruction in the areas of information literacy, digital literacy, and technology. Participates in outreach initiatives including digital literacy instruction and programming for underserved populations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Responsible for technology training and assistance, reader’s advisory, and adult reference services using the full range of resources available including Internet, databases, indexes, periodicals, directories, reference, and circulating materials.

  • Assist users in selecting materials for informational or entertainment purposes.

  • Instruct patrons on how to locate information and maximize the use of resources.

  • Answer reference questions covering a wide range of difficulty.

  • Develop and facilitate programs and events with a focus on information and digital literacy.

  • Comprehend, analyze and interpret rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the library. Propose recommended changes.

  • Continue to develop skills by attending seminars and meetings of professional library groups and organizations.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the resources and services provided through the New Jersey State Library and BCCLS.

  • Provide input to the Collection Development Department based on knowledge of patron interests and current literature across all media formats.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MLS with NJ Certification, or BA/BS with library degree in progress.

  • Minimum of one year of library or customer service experience.

  • Current knowledge of library trends and innovations.

  • Proficiency in conversational Spanish is a plus.

  • Experience working with seniors is preferred.
     

SCHEDULE

  • Weekdays with some evenings and weekends (Saturday or Sunday)

SALARY

  • With MLS degree: $57,945
  • With BA/BS degree: $44,774
