The Union City Public Library is looking for an innovative, enthusiastic, creative, engaged full-time librarian to help transform the Adult Services Department. 

At the start of 2022, UCPL was officially named a recipient of $3.2 million through the NJ Library Construction Bond Act to help transform our Main Library and bring services to the 21st century.

Join our team in an exciting time!  Help develop new services for our diverse population as we work to provide a renovated library for the public.   

Responsibilities:

  • Collection Development: Update and maintain adult print and non-print collections.  Be willing to weed aggressively and create displays so our collection shines.
  • Outreach: Help promote library services outside of the building!  Build relationships with local organizations, businesses, community groups, and even apartment complexes.
  • Programming: Plan, coordinate, execute, and evaluate programs for adults.  Try out new program ideas with full support from library staff and administration.
  • Customer Service: Offer assistance in the informational needs of a very diverse population, including technology, reader's advisory, reference, and more!

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program
  • NJ Professional Librarian's Certificate
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas: customer service, reference and technology assistance, adult programming, collection development
  • Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively with library patrons and staff
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable but not required
