The Union City Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, engaged Youth Services Librarian for the Branch Library located at 1800 Summit Avenue, Union City, NJ 07087.  

The Branch Library was built in 2005 and is located within walking distance of many public and private schools.  It is an after-school destination for many neighborhood youth.  Over the last several years, the Library has worked hard to make a better space for youth of all ages, including adding an early literacy play area, as well as creating a brand new teen space to be ready for the 2023-2024 school year.  

Major Duties:

  • Providing programming for families and for children from 0-18 years.  Early literacy programming as well as after-school programming is necessary for the community.
  • Evaluating the needs of the community to identify new opportunities for programming and outreach.
  • Planning and implementing (with support) the Summer Reading Program
  • Participate in collection development, including purchasing and regular weeding.
  • Perform excellent customer service for all ages.
  • Promote library youth services through community outreach.
  • Assist in the development of services designed to fulfill the Library’s 2024-2026 Strategic Plan.

Qualifications:

  • MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution and a Professional Librarian certificate issued by the State of New Jersey. 

  • A successful candidate must have a strong knowledge of current library technologies and demonstrated experience using technology and digital resources. 

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential. 

  • Students enrolled in a graduate degree library program may be considered if they have educational experience.

This is a full-time 35 hours a week position. Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications. Generous benefits package included.
