The Glen Rock Public Library, located in Glen Rock, NJ, seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic leader with a strong commitment to public library service to fill the position of Library Director in a warm and friendly customer-service-oriented public library.
In a town where 68% of its residents have library cards, the Glen Rock Public Library is a vibrant busy place with a circulation in the top 16 of the 77 libraries within BCCLS. The library has a full year-round program schedule for all ages and a dedicated staff, including three full time MLS professionals and a full time Business Manager to carry it out. The Glen Rock Library is a welcoming and multi-functional place where people gather to read, work in small groups, use our computers, and attend our programs. Glen Rock is an educated and literate town that is highly supportive of the library. The library is situated within walking distance for many residents and within blocks of a small downtown with pleasant stores and two train stations. The library is a member of BCCLS, a consortium of 77 libraries in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic County. The library staff is unionized. The Director reports to a nine-member Board of Trustees.
The position requires an MLS/MLIS from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association and a New Jersey Professional Library Certificate. Additional qualifications include: 7 years of professional library experience in a public library of which at least three years have been in a management or supervisory position; a thorough knowledge of public library service; proven experience in successful financial management; an understanding of technology and its application in public libraries; strong managerial skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; experience with a unionized staff preferred; and experience in community outreach.
