The Springfield Free Public Library, a member of Libraries of Middlesex Automation Consortium (LMxAC) is looking to hire a librarian to serve as head of Youth Services. The successful applicant for this position will meet the following qualifications:
- Holds or is eligible to receive New Jersey professional librarian certification
- Five to seven years of professional experience working as a youth services librarian
- Experience and enthusiasm working with patrons in grades 6-12Interest in developing a vibrant program of teen volunteers
- Experience working with Canva, Eventbrite, Patron Point, ReadSquare and/or similar services
- Experience in developing and offering STEM programming
- Potential for leadership as demonstrated through active participation in professional organizations and associations
- Previous supervisory experience in a library setting will be considered a plus.
Additionally, the successful applicant for this position will have demonstrated proficiency in the following areas:
- Planning, preparation, implementation and assessment of library services and programming
- Strong knowledge base of children’s literature, with a special emphasis on YA materials
- Working within an assigned budget
- Communicate well with both colleagues and patrons
- Ability to recognize areas of service where improvement may be needed and to see them as opportunities for ongoing growth
- Ability to pay attention to detail while also being able to keep a keen eye on the bigger picture
The position of Head of Youth Services is 35 hours per week, including a one evening per week and a rotation of every third Saturday. Sunday shifts of 1-4 PM (during the months of October through May) and paid at the rate of time and a half, may occasionally be required and will be based upon a schedule that is mutually agreed upon by both the employee and the library.
