Interim Library Director
West Milford Township
The Library Board of Trustees is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as Interim Library Director for the West Milford Township Library. We seek a professional with prior experience as a library director or similar leadership role in a library for a short term (2-4 months) assignment.
West Milford is an 80 square mile, semi-rural community in northern Passaic County. It has a population of 26,000 with nearly 10,000 active library card holders. The library budget for 2022 is 1.3 million dollars based on 1/3 of a mil funding. A new library building and community center was built in 2017.
Desired Qualifications: MLS or MLIS. Experience as a library director.
- A thorough knowledge of library operations and management.
- Supervision of library staff including performance evaluation of personnel.
- Ability to motivate staff to provide excellent service to patrons.
- Strong experience in providing innovative and relevant library programming
opportunities.
- Experience in the preparation of an annual budget.
- Familiarity with the skills necessary to oversee maintenance of the physical plant.
- Experience reaching out to underserved, marginalized and shut-in communities.
- Understand the needs of the community and lead the development of a balanced program
of library services.
- Represent the library’s participation in community events and promote the library as a
community resource.
Salary: Negotiable based on hours per week. Part time hours possible. $4,000-$7,000 per month prorated accordingly.
Start Date: On or about June 8, 2022 or other mutually agreeable date. Schedule is flexible.
