EPL serves a population of 140,000, through 4 locations, in a city that serves as the County seat. The preferred candidate will coordinate, manage, and implement adult programming at our Main Branch.

Position Title: Librarian 1
Schedule: Salaried full-time position (35 hours) including days, evenings and weekend hours.
About the Position:
As part of the Information and Adult Services (IAS) Department and reporting to the Head of IAS, this position is primarily responsible for adult programming at the Main Library Branch.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Programming: Plan and run programs for adults yourself, and coordinate programming and events with other staff. Try out new program ideas with full support from library staff and administration.
- Outreach: Help promote library services outside of the building! Build relationships with local organizations, businesses, community groups, and even apartment complexes.
- Customer Service: Offer assistance in the informational needs of a very diverse population, including technology, reference, and more!
This is a Civil Service position; Librarian 1 is a non-competitive title. Elizabeth Public Library is a Union shop.
Education/Qualifications:
This position requires a master's degree from an ALA-accredited program and a NJ Professional Librarian Certificate. Students enrolled in an appropriate master’s program will be considered.
Additionally, the candidate should possess strong service orientation; be able to maintain professional boundaries and ethics and a calm demeanor; display excellent communication skills and have a sense of humor.
Preferred Skills:
Fluency in a language other than English, especially Spanish, is highly desirable.
