The Margate City Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic self-starter with library experience who can work with the public in our computer lab as well as in our busy circulation desk. The ideal candidate must have excellent interpersonal, communication and computer skills.

Duties:

Circulation - Assist patrons checking material in and out; placing holds, searching the catalog and providing general reader advisory, shelving books and other duties as required.

Computer Area - Assist library users in accessing documents from their email or USB. Print from patron devices or from the library’s computers. Offer assistance when necessary enabling clients to fax, scan, and email their documents from the Business Center.

E-Readers - Assist patrons with their Kindles, iPads, smartphones, laptops, and other digital devices to download books/audiobooks and manage their accounts with Libby or OverDrive.

Miscellaneous - Projects as assigned; may include inventory, office tasks, or other roles as defined by a supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of downloading books/audiobooks to Kindles, iPads, smartphones, laptops, and other digital devices with Libby or OverDrive
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to assist library patrons to print from computers and their devices.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and shelve materials on all shelves in the library.
  • Be able to work 14-25 hours per week as scheduled including nights and Saturdays.
  • New Jersey residency requirement: “New Jersey First Act”, N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the computer library systems (preferably Sierra) and the Dewey Decimal system.
  • Experience with working events.
  • Currently enrolled or having completed some college coursework.
  • Valid driver’s license.
