Come and join a new and expanding team of Library professionals as we reinvent the Edison Public Library for the 21th century.  Located in Central NJ, with a multicultural, multilingual and diverse population of 107,000, the Library currently has three library branches and bookmobile service. We are rebuilding our Library from the bottom-up and the top-down to create an environment of learning, exploration, innovation and fun for the entire community. Our North Edison and Main Library Branches currently are undergoing a transformation in lay-out and expansion. This is a Library system where anything is possible as we move towards a patron-centric view of programs and services. 

The Library seeks an innovative and forward thinking librarian to join our team to take on a dual role as the Makerspace & Digital Literacy Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have a passion for fostering creativity and innovation through hands-on learning experiences and a commitment to providing access to technology and digital literacy skills to all members of the community.

This position reports directly to the Supervisor of Technology and Innovation and indirectly to the Assistant Library Director and Library Director.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Oversees the operations of the library's makerspace, including equipment, supplies, and programming.
  • Develops and implements a variety of makerspace programs and workshops for patrons of all ages and skill levels.
  • Works with Supervisor of Technology and Innovation to develop computer and technology literacy program curriculums for students with varying levels of expertise and accessibility
  • Teaches computer classes, covering topics such as basic computer skills, internet usage, and digital literacy.
  • Collaborates with library staff and community organizations to develop partnerships for makerspace initiatives.
  • Maintains accurate records of makerspace usage and provides regular reports to library leadership.
  • Ensures the safety and cleanliness of the makerspace and equipment.
  • Stays current with trends and developments in the makerspace and digital literacy fields.
  • Provides reference and information services to patrons and assists with general library tasks as needed.
  • Works with the library’s administration to meet the library’s strategic planning goals
  • Uses in-depth professional knowledge of trends, theories, and technologies to advise and recommend service improvements
  • In the absence of the Supervisor may be required to communicate, schedule, and supervise other department staff
  • Provides readers advisory and reference services to patrons of all ages
  • Trains public and staff on library resources and services
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Experience in a library setting, including working with makerspaces and teaching computer classes.
  • Three to five years of post MLS or MLIS experience 
  • Strong organizational and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Technical proficiency in a variety of computer applications and digital technologies.
  • Ability to understand and interpret library policies and procedures to the public.

Hours

35 hours/week, with rotating nights and weekends

Benefits, as per the Union contract: 

Salary: 77,641

Vacation: 10 days/year

Sick: 12 days/year 

Personal: 2 days/year

Floating Holidays: 2 days

Holidays: 12

Pension eligible: PERS, NJ Pension Plan eligible

Union eligible
