Temporary Position to Support Grant
Anticipated Position Dates: December 2021 – September 2022
 

Anticipated Schedule

Mondays from 9am to 5pm, Wednesdays from 1pm to 9pm, and Fridays 9am to 5pm. Scheduling flexibility is required so the Librarian or Intern can occasionally attend outreach events and perform job duties outside of these regular hours.
 

Duties

The NJHealthConnect Librarian or Intern is a 10-month position to support the NJHealthConnect@Your Library grant funded by The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, and this program is co-sponsored by the New Jersey State Library. The grant promotes health equity to individuals in distressed communities by providing access to technology and multilingual health information for individuals at-risk for poor health outcomes. The NJHealthConnect Librarian or Intern will be the point-of-contact between the East Brunswick Public Library (EBPL), who will manage the project, and libraries throughout New Jersey. The librarian or intern will be instrumental in making the project successful by acting in the multifaceted role of liaison, educator, trainer, and troubleshooter. The librarian or intern will understand the challenges of health literacy and healthcare inequities and will be able to passionately advocate on behalf of the program with participating libraries. The librarian or intern will have thorough knowledge of the advantages of telehealth for marginalized individuals, many with comorbidities who are at risk for poor quality of life, late-stage diagnosis of disease, and higher mortality. The librarian or intern will have experience using iPads and apps, be comfortable in using and applying technology, and have clear communication skills needed to provide navigational instruction to participating libraries.

Educational Experience

Librarian candidates must possess an MLS degree from an accredited university. Intern candidates must be pursuing a Master's degree in the library profession from an ALA-accredited college or university. At least twenty-one credit hours are required to qualify as an intern. Prior work experience in public health is preferred, but not required.
 

Salary

Librarian: starting at $30.19 per hour; Intern: starting at $23.08 per hour. Salaries commensurate with experience.
