Franklin Township Public Library, located in Somerset, NJ  is looking for a part-time bookkeeper, office manager.

  • Responsible for various bookkeeping and clerical tasks including checking invoices and statements for accuracy, paying bills, and reconciliation of bank statements.  Proficiency with QuickBooks (non-profit) is required.
  • Responsible for mailing all checks and addressing any problems that may arise as part of this process.   
  • Once a year, providing documents for the library’s audit and Workman’s Comp audit.
  • Handling all aspects of the petty cash account.
  • Handling of all library revenue from overdue fines, charges for lost or damaged items, revenue from public printer use, donations, grants and other sources; preparing deposits and making trips to the bank to deposit money at least two times per month.
  • Making trips to nearby CoinStar or similar machines with library coinage.
  • Visiting the township municipal building to deliver various payments and to pick up library mail.
  • Preparing and making copies of Excel tables of library revenue and operating expenses each month for board meetings by established deadlines.
  • Maintaining orderly files of all official library documents, as instructed by the Library Director
  • Serving as backup for handling all matters pertaining to library payroll, using ADP software, including biweekly issuance of employee paychecks, handling and monitoring payroll deductions
  • Working with the Library Director, as requested, on other projects and tasks related to the operations of the Franklin Township Public Library.
  • With the approval of the Library Director, working directly with other members of the library staff on projects and tasks related to the operations of the Franklin Township Public Library.
  • Responsible for reporting to work early in the morning for scheduled contractor services two to three times a year.  

Required Specialized Skills for this position include:

  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and from home
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Previous experience handling payroll functions in an ADP environment is highly desirable
  • Previous experience with PERS and DCRP highly desirable
  • Accounting background preferred
  • A quick study who is able to work with speed and accuracy.

Additional Requirements

  • New Jersey residency
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or college
  • Ability to learn library terminology, techniques, procedures and tools
  • Ability to speak and write clearly
  • Ability to comply with all safety protocols, including mask and glove wearing, as appropriate
  • Ability to work in a sitting position for extended periods
  • Ability to look at a computer monitor for long periods
  • Ability to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19
  • Possession of a valid NJ driver’s license and use of a car
  • Ability to bend, reach, push carts weighing up to  200 lbs and to lift up to 25 lbs
  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to work designated hours of 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday

 This position will be available in the middle of May.  $28/hour starting salary.
