The Mahwah Public Library seeks an enthusiastic, customer-focused individual to join the team as a part-time Adult Services Assistant.

Under general direction of the Head of Adult Services, the Adult Services Assistant is an integral member of the team and one of the primary points of contact for our community. The successful candidate will be passionate about library services and will thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment where outstanding customer service is the norm.  

Primary responsibilities include processing passports in accordance with guidelines established by the U.S. Department of State.  As a member of the Adult Services team, additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, answering basic informational questions; providing reading recommendations; assisting with copiers, computers and technology; and, promoting Library collections and services. May assist with program preparation, basic room setup and other responsibilities as required. In addition to being organized and technologically savvy, the Adult Services Assistant will be customer-focused and able to work effectively with other staff in order to serve the community.

The successful candidate must either possess or be able to successfully complete training to receive certification as a passport acceptance agent within two (2) weeks of hire.  A minimum of one-year experience in a library or customer-centric retail or food-service setting, demonstrating excellent customer service, is required.  The idea candidate enjoys interacting with a varied clientele in a busy environment, and is highly detail oriented.  Proficiency with computers and other library technology is strongly preferred.  

Hours for this position include at every Saturday, plus one weekday evening, and other hours as may be mutually agreeable.  Ability to fill in at other times is highly desirable.  Rate of pay is $18/hour.
