Part-time Librarian: Information Services Department

12 hours/week, including some weekday evenings and Sundays

 

The South Brunswick Library, located halfway between the metropolitan hubs of NYC and Philadelphia, is home to a diverse, growing community that values all the services the Library provides. Our staff is dedicated to providing excellent customer service through innovative programming, community engagement and outreach, and our Mobile Branch.

 Our Library is embarking on an $8.6 million construction project to expand and repurpose our existing building. We are excited to bring new team members aboard as we build our next chapter at the South Brunswick Public Library. Renovations will include a new auditorium, state-of-the art meeting room, an expanded Teen Room, group study rooms, an instruction lab and more.

 The South Brunswick Public Library is seeking an outgoing, customer service-oriented individual to join our staff as a part-time Librarian. Under the supervision of the Head of Information Services, this person will provide reference assistance at the Information Desk, help customers with readers’ advisory, and provide basic computer assistance.

 Primary Responsibilities:

·         Provide excellent service to all library users.

·         Advise and assist patrons in the use of library services, databases, and online resources.

·         Maintain awareness of and be able to communicate library initiatives, events, and services to patrons.

·         Provide Readers' Advisory services and assist with collection development when necessary.

·         Assist patrons with our public computers, printing, faxing, and scanning.

·         Exercise initiative and judgement in public service situations.

·         Additional relevant duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

·         Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills

·         Possess strong tech skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, Google Apps, Android and iOS devices, and popular social media applications, as well as the ability to adapt to changes in technology

·         General knowledge of popular adult fiction and nonfiction.

·         MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution and NJ Public Library Certification required.

·         Speak, write and communicate in English effectively.

 Knowledge of SIRSI/Workflows, and/or multilingual abilities a plus

 Salary:

2021 starting salary was $29.51. We are currently negotiating a new contract and rates for 2022-2024.
