The Clifton Public Library (Passaic County) has an opening for a part time Librarian. This position reports to the supervisor of the Reference Department of its Main Memorial Library; shifts may include time in the Children’s Department and/or Allwood Branch in addition to the Main Library Reference desk.

We are looking for a service-oriented professional with an MLS degree from an ALA accredited program and a New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate to join our team. Excellent communication skills and competency in the use and instruction of technology are a must. You will be providing outstanding reference, reader’s advisory and computer assistance to a diverse public. Bi-lingual skills are a plus.

The City of Clifton is civil service and this position is for the title of Librarian 1. Part time positions include paid sick, personal and vacation hours. The salary starts at $30 an hour, commensurate with experience. Under the “New Jersey First Act,” new hires must reside in New Jersey within 1 year of starting. Start date dependent on results of background check.

The schedule totals 24 hours over a two-week rotation. Our primary needs currently include coverage of a schedule that alternates every other week as follows:
  Week 1 – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 6:00 – 9:00 pm (= 9 hrs)
  Week 2 – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 6:00 – 9:00 pm; Saturday 10:00 – 5:00pm (= 15 hrs)

Additionally, our Main Library is generally open on Sundays during mid-January – May and October – mid-December. This provides an opportunity for extra work on separate, seasonal schedules if you choose to sign up.

The Clifton Public Library includes the Main Memorial Library and the Allwood Branch. It serves a city population of over 90,000 and is a member of the PALS Plus automation consortium.
