The Middletown Township Public Library is seeking an energetic and customer service focused individual to join the Youth Services Department as a Part-Time Library Assistant. The successful candidate will be passionate about providing library services to children and caregivers, in a collaborative and customer service centered environment. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Greeting and welcoming patrons, in person and on the phone. 
  • Assisting library patrons with the check-in/check-out process.
  • Using traditional library resources (i.e. catalog, website, booklists, etc.) to answer routine, quick reference, and other patron inquiries.
  • Pulling, checking in, and transferring of hold requests to the circulation department.
  • Registering and checking in patrons for programs and events.
  • Creating library cards for new patrons.
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly appearance of the children’s room.
  • Awarding and distributing prizes in conjunction with reading incentive programs.
  • Assisting in coordinating tasks for volunteers.
  • Assisting with collection weeding, shifting projects, sorting, and shelving of materials.
  • Organizing and processing of materials as needed.
  • Mending materials as needed.
  • Potential for cross-training with other departments.

Compensation: 
Salary:  $18.81/hr. (Local Union 1032 contractual rate)
Hours:  20 per week

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 1pm to 5pm
  • Tuesday from 9am to 1pm
  • Thursday from 5pm to 9pm
  • One Saturday per month 9am to 5pm (Off -Monday/Wednesday)
