Job Summary:

The Linden Free Public Library is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Part-time Young Adult Librarian to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing library services to young people between the ages of 13-18; willing to travel off-site to local schools and community organizations to inform the community about library services; and dedicated to providing excellent customer service to all patrons.

This is a part-time, Civil Service (Librarian I), and Union position. The successful candidate will work approximately 25 hours a week. Scheduling is flexible, but the candidate will be required to work some evenings and Saturdays. Salary will be determined by Union contract, but will exceed NJLA minimum. Upon hiring, the candidate will be able to accrue prorated sick, personal and vacation time. Ample opportunities for professional growth will be offered.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Senior Youth Services Librarian to design and present engaging library programs for middle and high school-aged children.
  • Conduct site visits at public and private middle and high schools within Linden, NJ to promote library services and programs.
  • Foster partnerships with local community groups that work with teens to enhance library services and outreach efforts.
  • Develop, catalog, and maintain a meaningful collection of young adult materials that align with the interests and needs of the target age group.
  • Provide assistance at the Children's or Reference Desks as needed, offering excellent customer service to library patrons.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by library management.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program.
  • Professional NJ Librarian certification.
  • Currently enrolled students in a Master's of Library Science program may apply but will be hired as a Library Intern.
  • Experience in library services, particularly in youth services, is preferred but not required.
  • Residency in New Jersey within one year of hiring as required by the NJ First Act.
  • Fluency in another language, especially Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Polish, is a plus.
