The Mahwah Public Library seeks an enthusiastic, customer-focused individual to join the team as a part-time Youth Services Assistant.

The Youth Services Assistant is an integral member of the youth services team, and under general direction of the Head of Youth Services, acts as a primary point of contact for our vibrant community. The successful candidate will be passionate about library services to children, teens, and caregivers, and will thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment where outstanding customer service is the norm. 

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to: greeting patrons as they enter the department; answering patrons’ directional and informational questions; providing reading recommendations; assisting with computers and technology; and promoting Library collections and services.  The Youth Services Assistant will be expected to help with program planning, preparation, and presentation, and other responsibilities as required.  In addition to being organized and technologically savvy, the Youth Services Assistant will be customer-focused and able to work effectively with other staff in order to serve the community.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of one year experience in a library or customer-centric retail or youth service setting, possess excellent customer service skills and enjoy interacting with a varied clientele in a busy environment.  Proficiency with computers is expected and familiarity with Leap and other library technology is strongly preferred. 

This is a 24 hour/week position, including weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings and one Saturday each month, plus other hours as may be mutually agreeable.  Ability to fill in at other times is highly desirable.  Rate of pay is $18.25/hour for weekdays and Saturdays.
