Dover Free Public Library is looking for a part time Youth Services Library Associate to join our team. If you are a creative thinker, self-starter, and are passionate about serving the community please do not hesitate to apply.  

The assignment is a part-time position of approximately 26 hours/week including some evenings, and participation in the weekend rotation. Standard holidays, paid vacation and sick time provided in accordance with the library personnel manual.  Salary is commensurate with experience and meets NJLA recommendations. 

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year institution and is currently enrolled, or is accepted in an accredited MLS program.  Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years experience working with children and teens will also be considered.

Bilingual preferred (Spanish-English).

LIBRARY ASSOCIATE DEFINITION:

Under the direction of a professional librarian, takes the lead in organizing and implementing the technical or public service aspects of one or more library programs such as the development and coordination of events, patron services or collection management; does other related work.

Some examples of work performed:

  • Develop a regular schedule of programs, clubs, meetings and events.
  • Assist in maintaining website, newsletter and social media channels.
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation to enhance, initiate, and direct the operation of tween and teen’s services and programs both in a virtual and face-to-face format.
  • Person may be providing bilingual story time, as well as other children’s programming
  • Collaborate with the Children’s Librarian in gathering usage statistics, patron feedback and community input to evaluate programs, collection needs, and enrichment activities provided to patrons under the age of 18 years old.
  • Work independently.
  • Willing to develop knowledge of library theory, principles, techniques, trends and developments in the library profession.
  • Work harmoniously with patrons, staff and supervisors.
