The Monroe Township Public Library seeks an energetic, self-motivated, and team-oriented Youth Services Librarian for a part-time position. The ideal candidate will provide friendly, high-quality customer service to library patrons and has an in-depth knowledge of children’s and teen literature with the ability to provide excellent readers advisory. They create and execute programs under the direction of the Head of Youth Services and participate in executing department initiatives and programs. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Planning, coordinating, executing, and evaluating in-person and virtual programs that meet the interests and needs of children and families in the community 

  • Strengthening connections with local organizations and representing the library at community events 

  • Assisting with the maintenance of the children’s print and nonprint collection 

  • Providing readers’ advisory services to children and families

  • Providing all-ages reference

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

 

  • A Master's Degree in Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA accredited program and New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate are preferred. 

  • Consideration will be given to currently enrolled MLS students.

  • Experience with and enthusiasm for working with children (ages birth to 12 years) and families

  • Experience providing reference and reader’s advisory services for children

  • The ideal candidate is collaborative & communicative.

 

Schedule: The schedule for this position is 16 hours per week including Monday from 10-2, Tuesday 1-9 & Thursday 9-1 and rotating Saturday & Sunday coverage. There is an opportunity for additional hours on a substitute basis. 

Compensation: $32.96 per hour for librarian with MLS & NJ certification
