The Mahwah Public Library seeks an enthusiastic, customer-focused individual to join the team as a part-time library assistant with our Lending Services team.

The Library Assistant is an integral member of the Lending Services team and one of the primary points of contact for our vibrant community. The successful candidate will be passionate about libraries and will thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment where outstanding customer service is expected.  

Under general direction of the Head of Lending Services, the Library Assistant provide a wide range of services, including, but not limited to, greeting patrons as they enter the Library; checking in/out materials; registering patrons for accounts and resolving account concerns; packing/unpacking deliveries; and assisting patrons locating items in the Library collections.   Assists with program preparation, basic room setup, greeting program performers and welcoming audiences. As a member of the Lending Services team, the Assistant may be called on to answer basic informational questions; provide reading recommendations; assist with copiers, computers and technology; promote Library collections and services; and performs other responsibilities as required.  In addition to being organized and technologically savvy, the Assistant will be customer-focused and able to work effectively with other staff in order to serve the community.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of one-year experience in a library or customer-centric retail or food-service setting, possess excellent customer service skills and enjoy interacting with a varied clientele in a busy environment.  Proficiency with computers is expected and familiarity with Leap and other library technology is strongly preferred.  

Rate of pay is $17.75/hour for weekdays and Saturdays and $23.67/hour for Sundays. Availability to work evening and weekend hours are required.  Ability to fill in at other times is highly desirable.
