Part-Time Library Assistant, Youth Services, Hoboken Public Library

 

Location: Hoboken, New Jersey

 

Summary

 

Reporting to the Youth Services Manager, under the supervision of the Senior Library Assistant, this position performs a variety of paraprofessional, detailed library duties. There are specified assignments; however, the essential duties are to staff the Youth Services desks, including nights and weekends. This includes assisting patrons in-person and over the phone, receiving and loaning materials, maintaining the organization of the Youth Services areas, and other responsibilities as needed. This position is fully in-person. Performance will be reviewed periodically to ensure compliance with policy, procedures and standards.

 

Examples of Work:

  • Provides prompt, courteous and direct assistance to all patrons with basic information regarding use of library materials, equipment, and services
  • Assisting the Youth Services Department in lending library materials, registering patrons, and receiving and processing reserves and hold requests.
  • Assisting in children’s programming including story times, craft programs, STEM programs, and more as needed.
  • Assisting in children’s collection building and maintenance

 

Work Hours: 25 hours per week.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comfortable working with children, young adults, and their parents/caregivers
  • Excellent customer service, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills;  Ability to learn complex computer systems 
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Cooperative and adaptable team player with fellow staff and patrons
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Adaptability to a flexible work schedule 
  • Previous library work experience preferred 

 

Salary: $17.37/hour
