Title: Part-Time Youth Services Library Assistant

Reports To: Head of Youth Services Librarian

General Statement of Job Responsibility

The Youth Services Library Assistant will support the Youth Services Department by providing customer service and assisting the Head of Youth Services Librarian and Children’s Librarian with daily operations of the department.

Essential Functions

-Assists in the development and implementation of children’s, teens and family programs and special events

-Ensures open spaces in the Youth Services Department are tidy at all times

-Straightens shelves in Youth Services Department, rotating books on display

-Assists patrons in the Youth Services Department. Defers reference questions to the Youth Services Librarian

-Performs Circulation Desk functions when requested

-Assists in the development and implementation of the summer reading program

-Assists with the planning, preparation and production of weekly story times

-Assists with the planning, preparation and production of all other Youth Services programming as assigned by the Head of Youth Services Librarian

-Displays professional conduct and appearance at all times while performing duties

-Assists patrons in use of Youth Services collections and services

-Creates fliers, displays, posters, etc. to promote collections, services, and programming

-Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

-High School Diploma or GED

-Ability to relate to children and teens

-Ability to become familiar with the needs and interests of children and teens

-Ability to interact with and assist the public in a friendly and responsive manner

-Must be able to work some evenings and weekends

-Must be computer literate and able to adapt to changing technology

-Stays informed of changes in policies and procedures

 

20-24 hrs. per week; $15.35 per hour.
