The Union City Public Library, Hudson County, is seeking a friendly, customer service-oriented, creative, highly motivated, and enthusiastic part-time librarian to work on Saturdays in our active Youth Services Department that serves children and teens in a diverse urban community of 65,000+. In addition to Saturday, other week hours may be available.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Providing excellent customer service
Assisting children with book selection
Answering reference questions of varying difficulty and explaining the use and availability of reference sources in all appropriate formats
Instructing in the effective use of electronic resources for finding information
Planning and facilitating creative library programs for children and their families
Fostering early childhood literacy and supporting family literacy
Supervising clerical staff and volunteers, as needed

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program
NJ Professional Librarian's Certificate
Experience working with children or teens
Familiarity with children's literature
Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively with library patrons and staff
Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable but not required
Recent 2021 or future (May 2022) MLIS graduates will be considered

Starting Salary - $30/hour
