The South Brunswick Library, located halfway between the metropolitan hubs of NYC and Philadelphia, is home to a diverse, growing community that values all the services the Library provides. Our staff is dedicated to providing excellent customer service through innovative programming, community engagement and outreach, and our Mobile Branch.

Our Library is embarking on an $8.6 million construction project to expand and repurpose our existing building. We are excited to bring new team members aboard as we build our next chapter at the South Brunswick Public Library. Renovations will include a new auditorium, state-of-the art meeting room, an expanded Teen Room, group study rooms, an instruction lab and more.

The South Brunswick Public Library is seeking a full-time Emerging Technologies and Instructional Librarian, committed to bringing our library to the cutting edge of technology and providing digital literacy instruction to the public and the staff.  The Emerging Technologies Librarian should possess the knowledge and enthusiasm to work with new technology as it relates to improving the overall customer experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement new digital services and tools the library should make available to the public and staff.
  • Remain current on library trends and emerging technologies that would assist the user experience and refresh/revise for improvement and continued relevance.
  • Provide technology and device training for patrons and staff and develop training materials, tutorials, and instructional classes.
  • Evaluate database subscriptions by tracking usage and researching new products.
  • Take a leading role in planning and implement the upcoming Tech/Create Lab in collaboration with other SBPL librarians.
  • Collection development and evaluation duties as assigned.
  • As part of the Information Services team, provide customer focused reference, reader’s advisory and general assistance to customers at the public desk.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot technology equipment used by the public.
  • Assist in creating and updating the Library’s technology plan and be part of the in-house technology team.
  • Add information to Library website (WordPress) and input events on online calendar.
  • Represent the Library at community events.

Requirements:

Accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences and possess or be able to obtain a New Jersey Professional Library certificate.

  • Experience working in a public library setting.
  • Experience developing training materials and delivering instruction strongly preferred.
  • Strong computer and digital literacy skills and proficiency using new technologies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills—ability to work and interact effectively with others in a positive manner, as well as work well under pressure with courtesy and tact.
  • Proactive and quick learner with a strong interest in learning and teaching new technologies.
  • Knowledge of SIRSI/DYNIX a plus.

Compensation: Anticipated salary for 2022 is $60,445. 

SBPL provides a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental and prescription benefits with employee contributions rolled back to Year 2 levels (50% reduction). 22 vacation days, 15 sick days and 3 personal days per year plus paid holidays. .
