The Madison Public Library seeks an experienced, service-oriented Librarian, to serve as Full-time Technical Services Supervisor.

The successful candidate will be a team player with prior supervisory experience and excellent customer service and communication skills, cataloging experience and a strong working knowledge of bibliographic maintenance standards including Dewey Decimal Classification, OCLC/MARC records, RDA and AACR2. Public Library experience is preferred. Knowledge of Leap/Polaris is a plus.

This position is a part of the Library’s management team and may be responsible for the Library in the Director’s absence.  The Technical Services Supervisor supervises a full-time Technical Services Senior Library Assistant in the processing and handling of all library materials and in maintaining a robust adult craft program.

This position will:

Develop and maintain cataloging and processing policies and procedures that meet industry standards and library best practices.

Work closely with Main Library Alliance on matters relating to cataloging procedures, policy and guidelines.

Train/supervise Technical Services staff on data entry for physical material following Main guidelines. Oversee and report updates to catalog/MARC records.

Ensure accurate and timely processing of all library materials, including new acquisitions, and donations.

Catalog (classify) material (books, audiobooks, DVDs, etc.) according to Dewey decimal system.

Serve as administrator and staff liaison for material acquisitions accounts with vendors (Baker & Taylor, Ingram, Midwest Tape). Establish and monitor processing (labels, cataloging, covering, laminating) by each vendor. Oversee periodicals ordering and manage W.T. Cox account.

Order and catalog DVDs and maintain video collection.

Maintain accurate records and statistics for the Library's collection and technical services. Monitor/compile reports for other staff for collection development (withdrawn, missing, lost, dusty, circulation statistics, etc.).

Provide direct service to Library customers for an average of 20 hours a week on the Adult Services information desk. 

ALA-accredited MLIS degree or equivalent and Professional Librarian’s Certificate, issued by the New Jersey Department of Education required. 

The base salary for this position meets the current NJLA minimum for a Senior Librarian and salary will be commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, exempt position, with pension and health benefits.   The standard workweek is 36 hours. This position works Monday evenings, and Saturday and Sunday hours are required, in rotation.
