The part-time Teen Services Librarian will work with the Teen Services department to staff and program the Westergard Branch teen space. The position also includes all-ages reference and coverage at the Kennedy Branch.

Responsibilities:

  • Building relationships with teen patrons
  • Assisting Teen Services Librarians with planning, coordinating, executing, and evaluating in-person and virtual programs that meet the interests and needs of teens in the community
  • Providing information, reference, and readers advisory services to all patrons, especially teen patrons
  • Assisting Teen Services Librarians with the maintenance of the teen print and nonprint collection
  • Updating the Teen section of the Library’s website.
  • Troubleshooting computers
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA accredited program and New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate are preferred. 4-year degree required. Consideration will be given to currently enrolled MLS students or to those with demonstrated experience with teens and/or public library service.
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for working with young people in grades 6-12
  • Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively with library patrons and staff
  • Exceptional customer service skills; a strong knowledge of current computer technology; and the ability to collaborate in a team environment

Schedule:

The schedule for this position is 12-14 hours per week including afternoon, evening, and weekend hours in rotation. Friday afternoon and Thursday evening availability is highly desired. The successful candidate must be available to work at both Kennedy and Westergard Libraries.

Compensation:

This is a part-time position, with a minimum starting salary of $35.62 per hour with MLS and NJ Certification; $30.01 per hour for students currently enrolled in an MLS program.
