Two  Full-Time Library Assistant Positions at EOPL

The East Orange Public Library (EOPL) is seeking an enthusiastic paraprofessional to support the vision of a busy multicultural urban library that is dedicated to making a difference in the community.  We value diversity, initiative, creativity, flexibility, teamwork and are committed to service excellence. 

This is a great opportunity for a self-motivated and enthusiastic paraprofessional who loves working with the public. Position includes evenings and Saturdays. 37 ½ hour work week.

East Orange is a diverse urban city with a population of approximately 68,900 located 25 minutes from New York by bus/rail.  The library has a main location and three branches. Essential Duties

1.       Handles routine library circulation tasks such as check-ins, check-out, renewals and answers phone. Must be comfortable using a cash registrar and handling money.

2.       Shelving and keeping shelves in order, pick-ups, plus other duties as assigned

3.      Provides friendly and courteous assistance to customers in person, by phone, or email.

4.      Assists patrons with basic directional questions, and locating library materials as needed.

5.      Works cooperatively with other library staff. 

6.      Scheduled hours vary with some evening and weekend hours required.

7.      Expected to work and may be assigned to other departments in the library or other branch locations. 

         All  staff are crossed trained to work in other areas of the library such as 

         technical services, PC center and junior department.

Qualifications/Requirements

1.      Excellent customer service skills.

2.      Punctuality, reliability, trustworthiness and excellent attendance required.

3.      Able to work flexible schedule - some weekends required.

4.      High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree preferred.

5.      Good oral and written communication skills.

6.      Some computer skills, computational ability and clerical experience necessary.

7.      Must be able to lift (up to 50 pounds) and bend.

8.      Good judgment and initiative.

9.      Detail oriented, accurate.

10.   Team player and work cooperatively with co-workers.

11.   Able to work independently.

 

Salary and Benefits:

Annual Salary: $40,000. The position offers medical benefits, paid vacation, personal and sick time. The library participates in the State PERS pension plan.
