Vauxhall Branch Manager – Union Public Library

The Union Public Library is seeking a full-time Supervising Librarian to manage the day to day operations of the Vauxhall Branch Library. Under direct supervision of the Library Director, the Vauxhall Branch Library Manager’s duties include working the public service desk and answering reference questions for adults and children, Collection Development, planning and facilitating library programs for various constituency groups, coordinating with the Head of Youth Services regarding Children’s programming and the summer reading program, writing publicity and creating program flyers, reporting statistics and supervision of branch staff.  May also include cataloging/classification duties and will be responsible for addressing any building maintenance issues and establishing professional relationships with schools in close proximity.

 

Work schedule will be during the hours the branch is open and includes two evenings per week, Fridays at the Main Building and rotating Saturdays, at least one per month. During the summer the library is closed on Saturdays but open on Fridays, the schedule would then include Fridays at the Vauxhall Branch.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from a University or College accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Professional certification in compliance with state law.
  • Reside in the state of New Jersey as required by the New Jersey First Act (R.S.52:14-7).
  • Five years of full-time progressively responsible library experience which includes at least three years supervising a department or work unit.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Excellent customer service skills are essential.
  • Ability to make sound decisions grounded in experience, intuition, research, analysis, and fact finding.
  • Current knowledge of library technology, trends, innovations, and New Jersey library law.
  • Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills and proven experience developing and delivering innovative services
  • Reliable transportation to attend trainings, meetings, or other assigned duties at other off-site locations as required.
  • Fluency in Spanish (preferred).

 

Physical Demands:

Ability to operate a personal computer and keyboard, projectors, printers, and other office equipment; reading materials and providing verbal assistance to library users in English; manual dexterity to handle books, software, and a variety of media formats; intermittent sitting, standing, and walking; occasional bending, reaching, and stooping; lift and carry items weighing up to 20 lbs.; pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 75 lbs; distinguishing sounds at various frequencies and volumes; distance vision sufficient to distinguish people or objects under a variety of light conditions; vision sufficient to view computer screens and spine labels under a variety of light conditions.

 

This is a full-time 35 hours a week position. Salary meets the NJLA minimum.  Generous benefits package included.
